Farmers Market, Nice, Cote d'Azur ~ May 2004
I came to France last May to cook at the Cannes Film Festival with a group of 25 other chefs from around the US. One of our field trips was to the Nice Farmers Market where we were treated to a feast for the eyes, stomach and soul.
I tend not to attribute the word 'beautiful' with 'chicken' but these chickens were indeed beautiful. Feathers of vibrant red, orange, rust, maroon and every color in between, shades of Tuscany, jumped out of the cage and grabbed your attention, willing or not. I wanted to reach in and caress their beguiling feathers though sharp beaks and glaring owner thwarted any such nonsense.
I am so glad your blog is active again. I started subscribing sometime during the summer.
Anyway, I think roosters and chickens are beautiful. They can also be quite comical.
(I have many, many photos of them on my blog, which is all about small farms.)
This is one of my favorite roosters, despite him being in a cage at the county fair:

And I love this one, too:

Cheers.
