I understand this dilemna completely. But you know what? A "chinois" is close to $100, so you might have made off easy.

What kind of ic did you make?

hi shuna! it kills me how expensive this stuff is! i saw a chinois here for something like 85 euros (about $100)! I don’t get that one? A little mesh shaped like a cone? I’m in the wrong business – forget cooking, i’m making overpriced culinary tools!!!

i made the standard vanilla crème anglaise base then in one batch i added chopped figs and in another i added basil! with the basil, i did a blind taste test of sorts on some friends last night. They could obviously see the little green specs in the ice cream but i didn’t tell them what it was. it took a while but finally one person got it. i love doing things that make people really think about the flavors. I made a parsnip soup once and everyone was expecting a cauliflower type taste and then you see the quizzical looks on their face.

salut laura,
I saw your read my bog! I'm happy you visited!
Just to let you know, your post about ice-cream machine made me feel like ... going to BHV to check them out! Which I did today, and I think I am going to get one quite soon, actually as soon as I have moved in Lyon!
Talk to you soon!
